Doris Dabrowski is an experienced arbitrator and attorney based in Philadelphia and licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Recognitions include a rating of AV (preeminent) by Martindale-Hubbell, listing on Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for 15 years and Who’s Who in American Law.
Her practice focused on a wide range of employment issues, including ERISA benefit claims, wage payments, discrimination, retaliation, civil service, federal merit systems protection board appeals, security clearance denials, and licensing appeals. She represented government employees in civil rights litigation to protect their rights to due process and speech on matters of public concern. Union members engaged her to protect their rights under the labor union constitutions and bylaws. She negotiated favorable settlements in trade name infringement cases. Applying her knowledge of health care and benefit law, she drafted advance medical directives and powers of attorney, as well as wills.
Prior to starting her own practice, Doris Dabrowski practiced health law at Delaware County Legal Assistance Association. As a result of her advocacy, a hospital and the Pennsylvania Department of Health eliminated spousal consent requirements for sterilization. She represented hospital clients of the firm of Tabas, Furlong & Rosen in agency appeals and litigation to secure payments from insurers and Medicaid. She drafted patient admission agreements, benefit assignments and policies to comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Her advocacy resulted in a frequently cited opinion, Martin v. Municipal Publications, 510 F. Supp. 255, explaining false light invasion of privacy and defamation of private individuals participating in public events.
In addition to practicing law, Ms. Dabrowski works professionally as a church organist. During her term on the American Guild of Organists Career Development and Support Committee, she advised her colleagues about employment in religious organizations. She formerly served as a board member of the Consortium, a mental health service provider, the Health Systems Agency of Southeast Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Pro Musica. As a member of personnel committees, she advised non-profit organizations about employment practices and policies.
After decades of litigating cases, Doris Dabrowski primarily serves as a neutral arbitrator in employment and contract cases. She continues to advise and represent clients in appeals to benefit plans, administrative agencies and appellate courts.
